President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that he does not intend to remain in office after the end of the war.
He said this in an interview with Axios.
"I really wanted to be with my country in such a difficult period and help it. So my goal is to end the war, not to continue running for office," Zelenskyy emphasized.
According to him, the elections are not his personal goal. At the same time, Zelenskyy admitted that security risks significantly complicate the organization of the vote, but he considers it possible to hold elections during the ceasefire.
Recall, Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized that according to current legislation, elections cannot be held during martial law.
The draft state budget for 2026 does not provide for financing the holding of elections. This follows from the draft law of the Cabinet of Ministers on the state budget for 2026 (No. 14000).
In July, the CEC established the absence of grounds for the formation of a new composition of the TECs for local elections.
According to the electoral legislation, the next local elections in Ukraine are held simultaneously throughout the country on the last Sunday of October of the fifth year of the powers of local councils and heads and, accordingly, should have taken place on the last Sunday of October this year.
Due to the full-scale armed aggression of russia, martial law has been introduced in Ukraine, during which no elections are organized or held, therefore, the decision to schedule the next local elections was not made by the parliament.
