Zaluzhnyi predicts war of future: UAVs, EW and AI changing rules of battle

Drones, electronic warfare (EW) systems and artificial intelligence (AI) have become key elements of the modern battlefield, said the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK, Valerii Zaluzhnyi. According to him, it was thanks to these technologies that Ukraine was able to adapt to the new conditions of war, increase the survivability of personnel and create a transparent battlefield, where every movement of the enemy becomes a potential target.

He wrote about this in a column for the ZN.ua publication.

"There are foreign developments that already directly take into account the experience of the russian-Ukrainian war, especially in the field of drones, electronic warfare and artificial intelligence," Zaluzhnyi noted.

"As of today, the use of strike UAVs causes almost 80% of losses among personnel and equipment. This indicates that the means of protection of the previous period, such as fortification equipment, armor of combat vehicles, even individual armor protection, are leveled by the scale of use, lethality and accuracy of modern UAVs. All this calls into question the preparation for combat operations, where training human qualities will not reach the speed of reaction and accuracy of a robotic system controlled by artificial intelligence," Zaluzhnyi wrote.

He added that it is the combination of UAVs, electronic warfare systems and real-time reconnaissance that creates a transparent battlefield, where any activity is promptly detected and defeated.

According to him, russian troops are already actively using small FPV drones and loitering munitions, trying to break through the defense and exhaust Ukrainian units. At the same time, Ukrainian troops are successfully using electronic warfare to neutralize these threats, and the development of artificial intelligence creates new opportunities for protection and effective coordination on the battlefield.

Zaluzhnyi stressed that the future of war will be even more technological, in particular thanks to autonomous strike systems and robotic complexes. However, in order to effectively protect the Ukrainian military and maintain their combat capability, it is necessary to continue developing our own technologies, introduce innovations and support technological initiative.

"There are foreign developments that already directly take into account the experience of the russian-Ukrainian war, especially in the field of drones, electronic warfare and artificial intelligence," Zaluzhnyi noted.

Recall that near the village of Shandryholove in the Donetsk Region, russian stormtroopers shot parents and took their daughter. This became known thanks to radio interception and real-time filming from a drone.
