Ukraine is preparing for the UN General Assembly, a large number of meetings are planned, in particular, with US President Donald Trump, said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"There will be a large number of bilateral meetings. Business, technology, defense, minerals deal. This will be combined with a large economic meeting. And a meeting waith the President of the United States of America. Also, most likely, a meeting of the First Ladies of Ukraine and the United States on the humanitarian issue, on children," Zelenskyy said during a conversation with journalists, the Interfax-Ukraine website reports.
In addition, Ukraine is counting on holding a summit on the return of Ukrainian children who were abducted by russia. 38 delegations are ready to participate in it. The Crimean platform will also be at the UN General Assembly, Ukraine is counting on the participation of approximately 30 countries.
The President explained that during the meeting with Trump he would like to receive signals about "how close we are to understanding that security guarantees from all partners will be the ones we need," as well as about sanctions against russia.
"We have prepared the basis for security guarantees that Europe is ready to go for, taking into account that the United States of America will be there. We have had many discussions, there was a dialogue at various levels, including among the leadership of our armies and general staffs with Europeans, with Americans. The Prime Minister of Great Britain met with the President of the United States, and it was said that we will discuss relevant things at our bilateral meeting in New York," the President added.
Zelenskyy noted that Trump expects strong steps from Europe, however, according to the President, "we are wasting a lot of time if we wait, do not impose sanctions or do not take some steps that we very much expect from him (Trump, - ed.)".
"Of course, we support the whole of Europe imposing sanctions and tightening tariff policies against countries that buy energy resources from russia. But to tie all this up is to slow down the pressure on putin. We are ready to meet with putin. I have spoken about this. Both bilaterally and trilaterally. He is not ready," the head of state emphasized.
