The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhii Tykhyi, reported that Ukraine saw a signal from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about a possible meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump and welcomes it. The Ukrainian side "would be glad" to meet.
He said this during a briefing.
"We saw this signal (about the possibility of a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump - ed.) from the US Secretary of State, we welcome this signal of readiness for a meeting. We understand that indeed, during a high-level segment of the UN, this usually creates an opportunity for such contacts. And we would be glad if we could organize this meeting in New York of our leaders," Tykhyi said.
He noted that in general, work on meetings and contacts between the Presidents of Ukraine and the US is ongoing. Tykhyi added that every opportunity for such meetings is used.
"If we manage to organize a meeting in New York, it will be a very important opportunity to discuss the entire agenda of bilateral relations and important decisions in general. Therefore, we are working to ensure that such a meeting takes place, and we would like it to take place," the Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized.
Tykhyi drew attention to the fact that Zelenskyy will have a "very rich and meaningful program" in general, which will include a very large number of contacts with various partners - both with the American side and with many others.
Recall, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that the leader of the United States of America, Donald Trump, will probably meet with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, next week in New York.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Tykhyi confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation led by Zelenskyy will visit the UN General Assembly in New York next week. The eightieth, anniversary, session opened on September 9, but next week will be a high-level week for the General Assembly in New York, and leaders of heads of state and government will arrive there.
