A commission set up by the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) has concluded that the actions of the Israel Defense Forces in the Gaza Strip amount to genocide.
CNN reports this with reference to the 72-page report of the UN commission.
The commission conducted an independent investigation, which concluded that the Israeli army has committed four acts of genocide since October 7, 2023, when it launched a military operation after an attack by Hamas militants.
These acts include killing Palestinians in Gaza, causing them serious physical and mental harm, intentionally creating conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction in whole or in part, and measures aimed at preventing births.
The Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry previously published data showing that 65,000 people have been killed in the fighting in the Gaza Strip. The agency does not distinguish between civilians and militants, but said that most of the victims were women and children.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in late August, the UN said that about 514,000 people were starving due to fighting in Gaza City. In September, their number will increase by almost 150,000.
As we will recall, in June of this year, Germany proposed sending international forces to the Gaza Strip to protect civilians.
