EU discusses restrictions on issuing tourist visas to citizens of RF - Euractiv

The European Union is discussing tightening restrictions on issuing tourist visas to citizens of the aggressor country of russia. Several countries in the bloc have proposed a complete ban on the entry of russian tourists.

Euractiv reported this with reference to its own sources.

Unnamed European diplomats said that tightening restrictions on issuing tourist visas to russians and measures to restrict the movement of russian diplomats within the EU may be included in a new package of sanctions against russia.

Some diplomats said that EU member states intend to further update the rules already changed as a result of the cancellation of the visa facilitation agreement between the bloc and russia.

If this option is approved, entry rules will be harmonized throughout the EU, since issuing visas remains the responsibility of individual countries.

At the same time, the most aggressive countries insist on a complete ban on the entry of russian tourists. This requires a majority vote.

The publication writes that most EU countries bordering russia have already imposed strict restrictions on issuing visas to russians. Countries that expect an influx of russian tourists in the summer or during the holidays remain relatively liberal in this matter.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, at the end of August, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, revealed some details of a new package of sanctions against russia.

Shortly before that, she said that the European Union would prepare sanctions against russia's military economy.
