Rosh Hashanah in Uman: Ukraine and Israel preparing unprecedented security measures

Israel and Ukraine have agreed on a set of measures to ensure the security of tens of thousands of pilgrims who will arrive in Uman for the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. This was announced by Israel's Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk and Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Azman, Israel FM writes.

As part of the initiative, a network of police officers, doctors and volunteers from both countries will be deployed. A specialized medical assistance and security system will also be created, which will operate both on the border of Ukraine and directly in Uman.

"The State of Israel attaches the utmost importance to the safety of travelers. I welcome the cooperation with the Ukrainian government, which allows organizing a safe and well-organized pilgrimage," Ben-Gvir said.

Ambassador Korniychuk emphasized that Ukraine, despite the war, guarantees the holding of a safe event.

"Ukraine, despite the burden of the russian war and the difficult situation, is committed to conducting a safe and respectful pilgrimage in close cooperation with Israel," he said.

"There should be an annual pilgrimage. Thousands of prayers that are offered in Uman literally attract the Blessing and Mercy of the Almighty for all of Ukraine," said Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Azman.

As is known, Rosh Hashanah will begin at sunset on September 22. It is expected that tens of thousands of pilgrims will come to Uman this year, despite the war and the threat of russian attacks.

Earlier, rumors appeared in the media that this year Ukraine would not allow the annual Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman, but they were officially denied by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
