US lifts sanctions on Belavia airline to normalize relations with Belarus

US Presidential Envoy John Coale, during a meeting with self-proclaimed president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk, stated that the US has normalized relations with Belarus and has already lifted sanctions on the Belarusian airline Belavia. It was reported by the Belta publication on Thursday, September 11.

Coale said at the meeting with Lukashenko that the US President personally made a decision to lift sanctions on the Belarusian airline. According to him, Trump instructed to "do this immediately." The decision on Belavia has been approved, adopted by all relevant ministries and departments involved in this work.

"We really want to normalize our bilateral relations between the Republic of Belarus and the United States and are ready to do everything to ensure that this normalization takes place. The lifting of sanctions (on Belavia airline - Belta's note), which we announced at this meeting, is just the beginning," the US Presidential Envoy emphasized.

Coale also noted that the US and Belarus could make progress on the release of Belarusian prisoners if the parties reach an agreement during the discussions.
