A Ukrainian defender from the Kharkiv Region, Serhii Hanus, who was in russian captivity during 2022-2025 and returned to Ukraine in April, died in a car accident.
The head of the Krasnokutsk community, Iryna Karabut, has reported this.
"In April, we sincerely rejoiced at the return from Russian captivity of our fellow countryman from the village of Kostiantynivka - Hanus Serhii Oleksandrovych, born in 2001. ... But yesterday (April 7 - ed.) terrible news shook everyone - as a result of a car accident, the Hero's life was tragically cut short," the message says.
Serhii Hanus went through the ATO, and from the first days of the full-scale invasion he stood up for the defense of Ukraine. From 2022 to 2025, he was in russian captivity and was released in April.
"We express our sincere condolences to Serhii's family and friends. We share your pain and your loss. ... He will forever remain an example of courage, love for the Motherland, devotion to family and friends. He is now always twenty-four..." she added.
