The Ukrainian company Ukrspecsystems has announced the implementation of an investment program, within the framework of which it will build a plant for the production of unmanned aerial vehicles and a testing center in the UK.
The UK Defence Journal reported this on September 6.
According to the publication, the previous day, Ukrspecsystems CEO Rory Chamberlain said that the company is implementing an investment program worth GBP 200 million. It includes the construction of a drone production facility in Mildenhall and a testing center in Elmsett.
The area of the new plant will be 11,000 square meters. The project will create up to 500 jobs. Recruitment and training of personnel will begin by the end of this year, and the start of drone production is scheduled for early 2026.
"We stand united with Ukraine and we recognise its world-leading drone capabilities. By collaborating with Ukrainian companies like Ukrspecsystems we will benefit from access to cutting-edge designs and innovative technologies, strengthening the UK's Armed Forces and those of our partners. This £200 million investment will also improve our industrial base and create up to 500 jobs, driving economic growth and prosperity around the country – core elements of our upcoming Defence Industrial Strategy," said UK Defence Procurement Minister Maria Eagle.
The publication writes that local authorities also welcomed the news of the creation of the Ukrspecsystems enterprise. This is due to the recent announcement by the automaker Lotus about cutting 500 jobs at its headquarters, which is located in the region.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in July of this year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a number of companies from France had decided to start producing UAVs in Ukraine.
It also became known in July that Ukraine and the United States were working on an agreement on the production and sale of drones.
