UAH 3 million to be paid immediately: government updates procedure for payments to families of deceased servicemen

The government has updated the procedure for paying one-time cash assistance to the families of deceased servicemen. From now on, UAH 3 million will be paid to the families immediately, and the remaining UAH 12 million should be transferred in stages over 80 months.

The updated rules will apply to all units of the Defense Forces.

Assistance to the families of deceased servicemen will be assigned in cases officially certified by a death certificate from September 1, 2025. If the death was certified before the specified date, the procedure and terms of payments to family members of the deceased remain unchanged.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the new procedure provides for the following conditions:

• the total amount of one-time cash assistance, as before, is UAH 15 million;
• 1/5 of the total amount of the one-time cash assistance must be paid immediately — that is, UAH 3 million;
• the remaining 4/5 of the amount, i.e. UAH 12 million, should be transferred to the accounts of the family members of the deceased in stages over 80 months according to a fixed schedule - UAH 150,000 per month.

Recall that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at an extraordinary meeting approved a number of decisions aimed at strengthening social protection of military personnel and families of those killed in the war. In particular, the government agreed to pay UAH 15 million to the families of Ukrainian soldiers who died in captivity. The deadline for applying for a one-time cash benefit for military personnel who were injured or lost their ability to work has also been extended - now it is up to one year after receiving the status.
