No sanctions will ever force the aggressor country russia to change course in the war in Ukraine, said russian dictator putin's press-secretary Dmitry Peskov. At the same time, the russian economy is already stagnant. It was reported by Reuters on Monday, September 8.
Putin continues to claim that the russian economy has withstood the Western sanctions imposed, not least thanks to the costs of the war. He ordered businesses and officials to ignore the restrictions in all possible ways, Reuters reports.
"No sanctions will be able to force the Russian Federation to change the consistent position that our president has repeatedly spoken about," Peskov said.
However, according to the publication, russia's war economy, after growing by 4.1% in 2023 and 4.3% in 2024, is slowing sharply this year under the weight of high interest rates. Reuters quotes Sberbank CEO German Gref, one of russia's most influential bankers, as saying that the russian economy is stagnating and will fall into recession if interest rates are not lowered, while the central bank's report says it is already technically in recession.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 7, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the United States is ready to increase pressure on the aggressor country russia, which will lead to the complete collapse of its economy.
Also on September 7, US President Donald Trump confirmed that he is ready to move to the second stage of imposing sanctions against the aggressor country russia over the war in Ukraine.
