Syrskyi sums up August: 58 km² of territories restored, russian offensives thwarted

In August, the Ukrainian Defense Forces prevented the russians from advancing, and they were forced to postpone their offensive in the Zaporizhzhia Region, focusing on attacks in the Donetsk Region.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi has stated this on social networks.

According to him, the army focused its main efforts on deterring russian troops and inflicting significant losses on them. In the hottest areas — Lyman, Dobropillia, Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka — Ukrainian units used active defense tactics, restored lost territories and covered cities from air attacks.

"In August, the enemy hoped to achieve a strategic advantage, to make a breakthrough and encircle our troops in the area of the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration, and planned large-scale offensive actions in the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia directions. However, our troops did not allow these intentions to be realized. The Russians were forced to postpone the offensive in Zaporizhzhia and transfer marine units to the Donetsk Region," wrote Syrskyi.

On some sections of the front, Ukrainian forces even pushed back the enemy: in the Dobropillia direction, the russian federation lost 25.5 km² while gaining only 13.5 km², and in the Pokrovsk direction - control over 26 km² while advancing by 5 km².

"During August, control over 58 sq. km of territory was restored, a number of settlements were liberated," the Commander-in-Chief noted.

In addition, 60 facilities in russia were hit by Deep Strike weapons, and Ukrainian drones attacked more than 67,000 enemy targets.

The occupiers' losses in manpower in August alone amounted to 28,790 people. Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 297,350 russian military personnel have been eliminated and wounded.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have regained control over the settlement of Zarichne, which is located in the north of the Donetsk Region.
