2,500 military personnel confirmed to be in captivity – Internal Affairs Ministry

With the help of OSINT methods, 2,577 military personnel were confirmed to be in captivity. This is reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It is reported that the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances Artur Dobroserdov held a meeting with representatives of the OSCE Moscow Mechanism Independent Expert Mission. This is the fifth visit of the OSCE delegation to monitor compliance with the rights of Ukrainian prisoners.

"One of the key areas of work is ensuring the proper functioning of the Unified Register of Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, and our common goal is to return every citizen home, taking into account that prisoners of war retain the status of missing until their return," the Commissioner emphasized.

Information on 680 persons, including 91 civilians, has not yet been confirmed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). There are also 8 cases where people identified as prisoners were later found among the dead. Regarding six of them, the ICRC has not confirmed information about being in captivity.

A hotline 1698 is available for communication with the Commissioner. Regional offices are also operating in 12 regions, where citizens are being received. Additionally, an electronic system for submitting questionnaires from families of missing persons has been introduced.

"At the end of September, independent experts from the OSCE mission will publish a report at the international level on Russia's violation of its obligations to the OSCE, abuses and violations of human rights, war crimes and other violations of international humanitarian law," the Ministry of Internal Affairs added.

Recall that the russian federation holds Ukrainian prisoners in at least 300 camps, including in Belarus.
