Intimidating Europe. Center for Countering Disinformation names targets of russia's GPS jamming in Baltic Sea

A sharp increase in cases of interference in the operation of GPS signals has been recorded in the Baltic Sea - the sources of jamming, according to experts, are located on the territory of the aggressor state of russia. Hybrid attacks are part of russia's broader strategy to reduce support for Ukraine by intimidating the population.

It was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

Thus, on September 4, the Swedish transport agency Transportstyrelsen reported a sharp increase in the number of cases. 733 cases have already been registered in 2025, while in 2024 there were 495, and in 2023 - only 55. Experts report that the sources of jamming are located on the territory of russia.

According to the European Commission, the problem is becoming systemic. In 2025 alone, 13 EU member states drew attention to almost daily cases of jamming and falsification of signals. The Estonian state regulator said that 85% of flights in the country are experiencing navigation disruptions.

An increase in the number of russian electronic warfare installations near the borders with the Baltic countries, Poland and Finland has been recorded.

"Russia's systematic interference in the operation of GPS poses a threat to civilian passenger flights and international security. Such hybrid attacks are part of Russia's broader strategy to undermine the stability of Europe and reduce support for Ukraine by intimidating the population," the CCD stressed.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 1 it became known that the plane of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was forced to make an emergency landing in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, due to the outage of GPS navigation services at the Bulgarian airport.
