The legendary fashion designer, creator of modern style Giorgio Armani passed away today, September 4, at the age of 91. This was reported by La Repubblica, Associated Press and Reuters.
The publication writes that Armani was at home after hospitalization, which he kept secret from the general public. The fashion designer did not appear at his shows in June, as he was recovering from an unknown illness. This month he planned a major event in honor of the 50th anniversary of his brand fashion house Giorgio Armani during Milan Fashion Week.
"It is with infinite sadness that Armani Group announces the death of its creator, founder and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani," the fashion house said in a statement.
Armani was synonymous with modern Italian style and elegance. He combined the talent of a designer with the savvy of a businessman, running a company that brought in about EUR 2.3 billion (USD 2.7 billion) a year.

Giorgio Armani was born in Piacenza on July 11, 1934. In 1949, he moved with his parents to Milan, and in 1953 he entered medical school, but three years later he was drafted into the military. Upon returning home, he decided not to resume his studies and found a job in a Milan department store, where his path to fashion began.
Known as "Re Giorgio" - King Giorgio - the designer was known for controlling every detail of his collection and every aspect of his business, from advertising to fixing models' hair when they walked the catwalk.
