The head of the Chechen Republic of the russian federation, Ramzan Kadyrov, was served with suspicion of committing war crimes, including the use of Ukrainian prisoners as a "human shield" and executions on the battlefield.
This was reported by the SSU press service.
According to the investigation, during a speech to russian propagandists, Kadyrov ordered his subordinates not to take Ukrainian soldiers prisoner, but to shoot them on the battlefield. In addition, he ordered to use Ukrainian prisoners held in Chechnya as a "human shield" - to place them on the roofs of military facilities in Grozny to protect against drone attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Such actions violate the laws and customs of war, as defined by the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Based on new evidence, the SSU informed Kadyrov of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (war crimes).
Recall that back in August 2022, the SSU qualified Kadyrov's actions as preparation and waging an aggressive war, its justification and encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The investigation was conducted under the procedural leadership of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Measures are underway to bring the person involved to justice for crimes against Ukraine and its citizens.
Meanwhile, since the beginning of russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ramzan Kadyrov and 29 members of his family have received at least 146 awards.
