Civilian ship explodes on explosive device off coast of Odesa, crew not injured

In the Black Sea near the port of Chornomorsk, a civilian ship encountered an explosive object and was damaged.

The spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, reported this in a comment to Suspilne.

According to media reports, this is a cargo ship NS PRIDE under the flag of Belize. At the time of the explosion, it was empty. The crew was not injured, the ship remained afloat and did not receive critical damage.

Preliminarily, the explosion could have been caused by a fragment of a Shahed suicide drone shot down the day before, which did not detonate. At the same time, local Telegram channels suggest that mines drifting in the sea could have been the cause.

Pletenchuk stressed that the danger in the Black Sea remains due to the large number of explosive objects left by the russian army. "If the anti-mine forces had not been working, there would have been much more such cases," he noted, adding that the situation is currently under control.

We will remind, on the night of Sunday, August 31, the military of the aggressor country russia massively attacked the Odesa Region with strike drones. The occupiers damaged an energy infrastructure facility, there is one victim.
