State Guard Administration explains why Parubiy did not have state security

The Administration of State Guard of Ukraine has responded to the statement of Member of Parliament Volodymyr Ariev that shortly before his murder, former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy applied for state security, but was refused.

Thus, the Administration of State Guard noted that in accordance with the law "On State Security of State Authorities of Ukraine and Officials", the security of the following officials is ensured in their places of permanent and temporary stay:

• Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
• Prime Minister of Ukraine;
• Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine;
• Chairman of the Supreme Court;
• First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
• First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine;
• Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine;
• Prosecutor General;
• Minister of Defense of Ukraine;
• Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Also, during the term of office of such officials, the safety of their family members is ensured.

"However, after the end of their term of office, such officials are provided with state security only for one year, except in cases where a guilty verdict against them has entered into force. The Administration of State Guard of Ukraine performs its tasks exclusively within the framework of current legislation," the department noted.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 30, the current Member of Parliament and former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy was killed in Lviv.

Representatives of the police, prosecutor's office and SSU noted that the identity of the murderer of Andriy Parubiy has not yet been established; on Yefremova Street in Lviv on August 30, he fired about 8 shots at the victim from a short-barreled firearm; the connection with the murder of Iryna Farion is not being investigated.
