The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is officially in shutdown mode. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced this on his X-account on Friday, August 29.
Rubio said that since January, when the administration of US President Donald Trump suspended USAID's activities, taxpayers have been saved tens of billions of dollars.
"And with a small set of core programs moved over to the State Department, USAID is officially in close out mode. Russ (Director of the US Office of Management and Budget Russell Vought, - Ed.) is now at the helm to oversee the closeout of an agency that long ago went off the rails. Congrats, Russ," the US Secretary of State wrote.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 1, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is stopping providing foreign assistance.
In March, the United Nations said that after the USAID funding freeze, 2,000 new HIV cases would be recorded worldwide every day.
According to the study, the USAID funding cuts could lead to 14 million deaths by 2030.
