Cultural heritage sites in 18 regions destroyed and damaged by russian aggression – Culture Ministry

As a result of russian aggression in Ukraine, 1,553 cultural heritage sites and 2,388 cultural infrastructure sites have already been destroyed and damaged.

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine has reported this.

Among the damaged cultural heritage sites:

- 148 have the status of national importance;

- 1,287 - local;

- 118 - newly discovered.

In total, damage was recorded in 18 regions. The most damaged sites were:

- in the Kharkiv Region - 340;

- in the Kherson Region - 293;

- in the Odessa Region - 181;

- in the Donetsk Region - 173;

- in the Kyiv Region and Kyiv city – 112.

At the same time, 2,388 cultural infrastructure facilities were damaged as a result of shelling and hostilities, of which 481 were completely destroyed.

"Cultural infrastructure in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Sumy Regions suffered the greatest losses," the Ministry specified.

In total, the following were damaged:

- club establishments – 1,162;

- libraries – 840;

- art education institutions – 182;

- museums and galleries – 131;

- theaters, cinemas and philharmonics – 49;

- reserves – 9;

- parks, zoos – 10;

- circuses – 4.

Destruction was recorded in 324 territorial communities throughout Ukraine. The largest number is in the communities of the Donetsk (452 ​​ territorial communities), Luhansk (122 territorial communities), Sumy (37 territorial communities), Kharkiv (33 territorial communities), Dnipropetrovsk (23 TG), Zaporizhzhia (28 territorial communities) Regions.

"Almost the entire territory of the Luhansk Region and significant parts of the territories of the Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Kherson Regions are under temporary occupation. This makes it impossible to accurately calculate the number of cultural institutions that have suffered as a result of hostilities and occupation," the department added.
