Stefanishyna officially became Ukraine's Ambassador to US

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree appointing former Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna as Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States.

He announced this in his evening address on August 27.

"I just spoke with Olha Stefanishyna - now the new Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States of America. The formal procedures have been completed - today I signed a decree appointing the Ambassador. I have identified key tasks for updating the work of our embassy, and the main thing is to fully implement all agreements with Washington - our agreements with President Trump, and primarily in the defense sector. In many ways, the long-term guarantee of Ukraine's security depends on relations with America. There are two Ukrainian proposals on the table, these are strong proposals. This is an arms agreement for Ukraine, this is an agreement on modern drones for the United States. And we are counting on rapid progress in relations," Zelenskyy noted.

He also thanked Oksana Markarova, who represented Ukraine in Washington during the full-scale war, and said that he had invited her to remain on the team.

Recall that in July, Zelenskyy appointed Stefanishyna as the special presidential envoy for developing cooperation with the United States in order not to lose momentum in relations until the formal procedures for approving her candidacy in Washington were completed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy previously reported that he was considering appointing Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to the post of Ambassador to the United States instead of Oksana Markarova. Later, Yaroslav Zhelezniak, MP from the Holos faction, reported on the Telegram channel that, according to him, Umerov's candidacy for the post of Ambassador was not approved by Washington, now Stefanishyna is being considered for this position, and Umerov may be appointed to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).

In February 2021, Zelenskyy appointed Oksana Markarova as Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States, replacing Volodymyr Yelchenko.
