Strikes on Ust-Luga port and Druzhba pipeline lead to reduction in seaborne oil exports from russia

Ukraine's strikes on oil refining facilities of the aggressor country of russia and the US doubling of tariffs on India are negatively affecting russian oil exports.

Bloomberg reported this on Wednesday, August 27.

According to data from ship tracking services, last week oil supplies from russian ports decreased by 320,000 barrels per day. Deliveries fell to a four-week low of 2.72 million barrels per day. The reason for this was a reduction in the loading of "black gold" at the port of Ust-Luga on the Baltic Sea.

The decrease occurred against the backdrop of two strikes by Ukraine on the Unecha oil pumping station. It is one of the infrastructure facilities of the Druzhba oil pipeline.

The attacks have disrupted oil pipelines to Hungary and Slovakia and likely hampered shipments from the port of Ust-Luga. The pipeline that brings oil to the port starts at Unecha.

The port's storage tanks mean any disruption may not immediately reduce shipments, but tracking data and shipping reports show just two tankers loaded russian oil at Ust-Luga last week, down from four in the previous seven days and six in the week to August 10.

Bloomberg stressed that the drop had little impact on the four-week average of crude shipments, which averaged 3.06 million barrels per day.

In addition, additional US sanctions on India are also likely to affect the flow of russian oil to Indian ports, although it is unclear how long this trend will continue.

Over the past two months, supplies to India have fallen by more than 500,000 barrels per day. Even if all tankers with no confirmed destination eventually unload at Indian ports, supplies will still be down by 300,000 barrels per day from the end of June.

Ukraine strikes Druzhba pipeline

On the night of August 19, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Nikolskoye oil pumping station in the Tambov Oblast of the russian federation. It is part of the Druzhba pipeline infrastructure.

On the night of August 22, the Ukrainian military repeated the attack, but this time struck the Unecha station in the Bryansk Oblast.

As a reminder, on the afternoon of August 22, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that as a result of the strike on the Unecha station, the Druzhba oil pipeline will not be able to pump oil for at least five days.
