Polish publication fires Ukrainian journalist who called President Nawrocki "pakhan"

Ukrainian journalist Vitalii Mazurenko has lost his position as deputy editor-in-chief of the Polish publication Obserwator Międzynarodowy [International Observer] for his remarks about Polish President Karol Nawrocki. This was announced in a statement by the publication's editorial office.

Ukrainian journalist Vitalii Mazurenko commented on President Nawrocki's decision to veto the law on Ukrainians.

"Mr. Nawrocki's rhetoric and behavior are not the behavior of a President, but the behavior of a pakhan. That is what they call a criminal leader in russian prisons," Mazurenko said.

The editorial office emphasized that they categorically do not accept such behavior that undermines the authority of the Polish President.

"We inform you that a decision has been made to immediately terminate cooperation with Mr. Vitalii Mazurenko. This person also loses the function of deputy editor-in-chief in our editorial office. At the same time, we assure our readers, viewers and partners that such behavior will not be tolerated in any way in the future," Obserwator Międzynarodowy said in a statement.

The head of the Polish President's Office, Zbigniew Bogucki, stated that Mazurenko should be held accountable for publicly insulting the President of the Republic of Poland. Bogucki also emphasized that this situation should stimulate a discussion on introducing into the Polish legal system provisions regulating the deprivation of citizenship acquired through naturalization.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on August 25, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated that only Ukrainians working in Poland should receive assistance under the "800+" program, which is why he did not sign the amendment to the law on assistance to Ukrainian citizens.

On August 25, Nawrocki announced a legislative initiative that would equate the "Bandera symbol" with Nazi and communist symbols in the criminal code.
