Ukraine risks losing out in drone arms race with russia without help from partners — Sky News

Ukraine is losing its lead in the drone arms race with aggressor russia as moscow scales up production and actively develops drones that cannot be suppressed by electronic warfare.

This is stated in the material of the British publication Sky News.

After the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine turned drones into its most effective weapon against the russian army. But now it is losing its superiority in the sky.

Unnamed interlocutors of Sky News said that Ukraine risks losing the arms race with russia in the field of drones and needs help. Ukraine produces hundreds of thousands of drones of various types, but even this number is not enough. Russia, which has been lagging behind for some time, is actively scaling up UAV production and modernizing drones.

In addition, another problem is the massive development of fiber-optic drones by the russians. These drones cannot be suppressed by electronic warfare means because communication with the operator is carried out not via radio channel, but via fiber-optic cable.

Sky News writes that this situation worries not only Ukraine, but also its Western allies, because UAVs are becoming a likely weapon in future conflicts.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 20, the UK Ministry of Defense stated in its intelligence review that russia is rapidly militarizing children, introducing drone control courses into the educational program.

As we will recall, in early August, OSINT analysts reported that the russians had equipped launch sites for Shaheds on the territory of the destroyed Donetsk airport.

And in July, it became known that the russians were expanding the Shahed production plant located in the Republic of Tatarstan.

Shortly before this, the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert "Madyar" Brovdi, stated that in the near future the russians would launch 1,000 Shaheds over Ukraine every day.
