Ukraine wants to create transport accident investigation bureau

The Cabinet of Ministers has supported a European integration bill on the creation of the National Transport Accident Investigation Bureau. The goal of the future body is "independent, objective and professional investigations of accidents on all types of transport". This is announced in a statement by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

"Currently, Ukraine does not have a special law that would determine the legal principles of the activities of an independent body for investigating transport accidents. There is also no clear legal basis for organizing such investigations. The adoption of the bill will also be a step in Ukraine's fulfillment of its obligations under the Association Agreement with the EU," said Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine - Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksii Kuleba.

The National Transport Accident Investigation Bureau is expected to become the basis for transparency and trust in processes, make investigations faster and better, and increase the level of transport safety. In addition, the new body will provide recommendations to reduce the risks of new accidents.

"The next step is to register the bill in the Verkhovna Rada and prepare for its consideration," the Ministry of Development said.
