Following the results of the competition for the position of the Director General of the Ukrainian Defense Industry Joint Stock Company (Ukroboronprom), the company's supervisory board appointed Herman Smetanin as its head.
Ukroboronprom announced this on its Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
It is noted that the search, selection and evaluation of candidates, of which there were 14, was carried out by the international company Odgers Berndtson, which specializes in the selection of top-level managers.
The decision to appoint a new Director General was made after final interviews with candidates who were shortlisted based on the results of the preliminary selection.
"Herman Smetanin has gained unique work experience and is well-versed in both the internal processes of enterprises and the organization of the defense industry at the government level. This set of knowledge and skills allows him to effectively organize the current work of Ukroboronprom, as well as have a strategic vision for the further development of the industry. The new Director General of UOP JSC is able to solve the most ambitious tasks to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities and build a modern arms company," said David Lomjaria, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Ukroboronprom.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in July, Ukroboronprom announced the appointment of former Minister of Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin as Acting Director General of Ukroboronprom JSC in connection with the transfer of the Director General of the joint-stock company Oleh Huliak to another position in the state defense industry.
32-year-old Smetanin was the Minister of Strategic Industries from September 2024 to July 2025.
Prior to that, since June 2023, he was the CEO of Ukroboronprom.
Previously, he worked as the chief designer and chief engineer at the Lviv Armored Plant, the production director at the Malyshev Plant, the director of the Kharkiv Armored Plant, and the CEO of the Malyshev Plant.
In October 2024, Oleg Hulyak, who had been acting CEO of Ukroboronprom since September, became the CEO of Ukroboronprom.
According to Ukroboronprom, in 2024 the company's consolidated net profit amounted to UAH 1,309.5 million.
