The US and European partners have agreed to hold a trilateral summit with the participation of the leaders of Ukraine, the US and russia. The meeting may take place in Europe, with Budapest being named as one of the possible locations.
This was reported by Reuters, citing diplomatic sources.
US President Donald Trump confirmed that during talks with vladimir putin he discussed preparations for a meeting between the russian and Ukrainian Presidents. Although the Kremlin has not officially announced the agreement, according to Reuters, talks in Hungary are being considered as a likely option.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the meeting is planned for the next two weeks.
Sky News reports that the US and the EU had agreed on the format of the summit even earlier. During the discussions, Giorgia Meloni suggested Rome, Emmanuel Macron suggested Geneva. Zelenskyy and Trump, according to sources, prefer Rome, particularly the Vatican, while putin leans towards Geneva.
The foreign ministries of Italy and Switzerland have confirmed their readiness to host the talks. European diplomats are also considering other locations, including Budapest and Helsinki.
As a reminder, French leader Emmanuel Macron said that the issue of a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and russian dictator vladimir putin has been "resolved."
