Reuters publishes putin's demands for settlement of war in Ukraine. They include territory, russian language and sanctions

Russia will give up small areas of occupied Ukraine and Kyiv will cede parts of its eastern territories that moscow has failed to seize, according to peace proposals discussed by vladimir putin and Donald Trump at a summit in Alaska. Reuters reported this, publishing a list of putin's demands for a settlement of the war in Ukraine.

According to the sources, russia is ready to return relatively small areas of Ukrainian land that it occupied in the northern Sumy and northeastern Kharkiv Regions. Putin's proposal excluded a ceasefire until a comprehensive agreement was reached, blocking a key demand of Zelenskyy, whose country is hit daily by russian drones and ballistic missiles.

According to the sources, under the deal proposed by russia, Kyiv would completely withdraw troops from the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk Regions in exchange for r ussia's promise to freeze the front lines in the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Regions.

The sources also said they knew the russian leader was also seeking at least formal recognition of russian sovereignty over Crimea, which moscow seized from Ukraine in 2014.

Putin is also seeking at least some of the sanctions against russia. They could not say whether that would apply to both US and European sanctions.

On Friday, Trump said he did not need to immediately consider retaliatory tariffs on countries like China for buying russian oil (which is subject to a range of Western sanctions), but might have to do so "in two or three weeks."

Ukraine would also be barred from joining the NATO military alliance, the sources said, although putin appears willing to provide Ukraine with some security guarantees.

Russia would also demand that the russian language be given official status in parts of Ukraine or throughout the country, and that the russian Orthodox Church be allowed to operate freely.

It was previously reported that after the meeting between United States President Donald Trump and kremlin leader putin in Alaska, the European Union expects a trilateral summit with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and is ready to join its preparations.
