US President Donald Trump said that Ukraine should participate in negotiations on territorial issues in any ceasefire agreement with russia, French President Emmanuel Macron said. His words were quoted by Reuters on Wednesday, August 13.
Macron stressed that Trump considers it mandatory for Ukraine to participate in negotiations with russia on a potential territory swap, the publication writes.
"Trump's insistence on Ukraine's involvement, if confirmed, could bring some relief to Ukraine and its allies, who fear that Trump and putin could reach a deal that sells out the security interests of Europe and Ukraine and proposes dividing up Ukraine's territory," the material says.
Europeans are concerned that as a result of the territory swap, russia would receive almost a fifth of Ukraine, which would provoke putin to further attack the West in the future.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on August 13, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and russian dictator vladimir putin in Alaska is not a concession to Moscow.
On August 12, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reported that Trump will meet one on one with putin.
As a reminder, on July 1, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke on the phone with russian dictator vladimir putin for the first time since 2022.
