Zelenskyy instructs to work out possibility of simplifying border crossing for citizens under 22 years of age

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to work out the possibility of simplifying border crossing for citizens under 22 years of age.

The head of state made the corresponding statement at a meeting with participants of the Ukrainian Youth Forum, the We-Ukraine TV channel reports.

According to him, he instructed the government and military leadership to work out the possibility of simplifying border crossing for young people.

"Currently, there is an 18-year age limit at the border. I propose to raise the level to 22 years of age so that there are no restrictions on crossing," Zelenskyy said.

The President called it "a positive story that will allow many young Ukrainians to maintain ties with Ukraine and realize themselves in education.

Recall that currently, men aged 18 to 60 cannot cross the state border. This is due to the martial law regime in the country.

The following categories of citizens are exempt:

  • Persons with disabilities.
  • Persons accompanying a disabled spouse abroad.
  • Persons accompanying one of their parents or spouse's parents from among persons with disabilities of groups I or II.
  • Those who provide constant care for persons with disabilities of groups I or II and accompany such persons to travel outside Ukraine.
  • Parents, guardians, custodians, adoptive parents, foster parents who raise a child with disabilities under the age of 18 and accompany him or her outside Ukraine.
  • Parents on whom an adult child who is a person with disabilities of group I or II is dependent.
  • Who accompany a person who, due to his/her health condition, requires constant care.
  • Guardians of persons with disabilities recognized by a court as incapacitated, who accompany such persons to travel outside Ukraine.

In addition, men subject to military service who have a deferment from mobilization can cross the border.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in May of this year, Minister of Education Oksen Lysovyi admitted that Ukrainians take their children abroad after they finish school.

Also in May, the Ministry of Education and Science stated that Ukraine does not plan to lower the mobilization age, so parents' concerns about the mobilization of 18-year-olds are irrational.
