In the first half of 2025, businesses and the population actively carried out credit and debit transfers.
This is evidenced by data from the NBU, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
In total, over 1.6 billion payment transactions initiated using credit transfers and direct debits (both within Ukraine and cross-border) were made during this time.
In Ukraine, 60 banks and two non-bank financial institutions provided payment transaction services initiated using credit transfers and direct debits to the population and businesses in the first half of 2025.
In the first half of 2025, the following were made using credit transfers:
- within Ukraine - 1,611.8 million payment transactions worth over UAH 22,510.95 billion;
- to Ukraine – 5.5 million payment transactions worth USD 32.68 billion in equivalent;
- from Ukraine – 1.1 million payment transactions worth USD 40.71 billion in equivalent.
During the same period, 1.1 million payment transactions initiated using direct debit were made for the amount of UAH 7.1 billion.
In the first half of 2025, the largest number of payment transactions within Ukraine initiated using credit transfer were made from the accounts of individuals: 1,322.6 million, or 82.06% of the total number of relevant payment transactions.
At the same time, by amount, the largest number of such payment transactions were made from the accounts of business entities: UAH 20,876.09 billion, or 92.74% of the total amount.
During this period, 4.3 million transactions were received from abroad in favor of individuals in Ukraine, or 76.88% of the total number of payment transactions made to Ukraine using credit transfers. At the same time, USD 30.92 billion in equiv., or 94.61% of the total amount of payment transactions initiated using credit transfers, were received from abroad in favor of business entities (under foreign economic contracts). The largest amount of funds came to Ukraine from the EU countries (45.34%), Switzerland (21.64%), and the United States of America (11.3%).
The largest volume of payment transactions from Ukraine initiated using credit transfers was made by businesses (under foreign economic contracts): 0.6 million for the amount of USD 40.47 billion in equiv. This is 51.0% of the total number and 99.41% of the total amount of such payment transactions. Geographically, the largest amount of funds was received by the EU countries (58.81%), Switzerland (10.65%) and the UK (6.78%).
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the National Bank of Ukraine has begun publishing information on the use of such payment instruments as credit transfer and direct debit, the collection of which was introduced last year.
The Law of Ukraine "On Payment Services", which came into force on August 1, 2022, defines the use of the following types of payment instruments:
- credit transfer - with its use, the payer's order to transfer funds from his account (credit transfer) is executed within a bank / non-bank financial institution or between banks / non-bank financial institutions;
- direct debit - with its use, funds are debited from the payer's account based on the recipient's order (debit transfer) within a bank / non-bank financial institution or between banks / non-bank financial institutions;
- electronic payment methods (mainly the payment cards we are familiar with).
