US Vice President JD Vance said the United States will no longer fund the war in Ukraine, but will instead focus on achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict. He said this in an interview with Fox News.
"If European countries want to take the initiative and buy weapons from American manufacturers, we will not object. But we ourselves will not fund it anymore," Vance stressed.
He also voiced several key positions on diplomatic efforts:
- he called the upcoming talks between Donald Trump and vladimir putin an important breakthrough for American diplomacy;
- Trump, according to Vance, is not confident in the positive outcome of the talks on Ukraine, but considers it necessary to give them a chance;
- Washington advocates a settlement of the conflict, taking into account the current front line;
- The United States is coordinating the time of a potential meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and vladimir putin to discuss ending the war;
- The White House intends to maintain an open dialogue with Ukraine and its President.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, US President Trump and russian dictator putin will hold a bilateral meeting in Alaska next Friday, August 15.
According to Bloomberg, American and russian officials are working on an agreement before the meeting between Trump and putin. It will allow russia to consolidate the occupation of several regions of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will not give up its territories. According to him, the answer to any territorial issues lies in the Constitution of Ukraine, and no one intends to deviate from it.
And the head of the European Commission and the leaders of six European countries issued a joint communiqué. In it, they welcomed Trump's efforts, but called on him to protect Ukraine's interests and prevent changes to its recognized borders.
