EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas announced that an extraordinary meeting of EU foreign ministers will be held tomorrow. The reason was the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader vladimir putin.
As reported by Reuters, Kallas stressed that any agreements between Washington and Moscow on ending the war in Ukraine must include the participation of Kyiv and Brussels.
"The US has the opportunity to force russia to sit down at the table for serious negotiations. But any agreement must include Ukraine and the EU, because it is about the security of not only Ukraine, but also the whole of Europe," she said.
According to her, during tomorrow's meeting, the ministers will discuss further steps, as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Kallas emphasized that international law clearly states: all temporarily occupied territories belong to Ukraine.
"The agreement should not become a springboard for further russian aggression against Ukraine, the transatlantic alliance, and Europe," she added.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, US President Trump and russian dictator putin will hold a bilateral meeting in Alaska next Friday, August 15.
According to Bloomberg, American and russian officials are working on an agreement before the meeting between Trump and putin. It will allow russia to consolidate the occupation of several regions of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will not give up its territories. According to him, the answer to any territorial issues lies in the Constitution of Ukraine, and no one intends to deviate from it.
And the head of the European Commission and the leaders of six European countries issued a joint communiqué. In it, they welcomed Trump's efforts, but called on him to protect Ukraine's interests and prevent changes to its recognized borders.
