Russian dictator vladimir putin did not say anything about the possible return of the occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions. The US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff simply misinterpreted his words.
The American publication The Washington Post wrote about this, citing its own sources.
An unnamed source for the publication said that putin's assumption that he was allegedly ready to stop the offensive in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions was misunderstood by the Americans.
Putin demanded that Ukraine withdraw its troops from the Luhansk and Donetsk Regions. In return, the russian army would supposedly agree to a ceasefire.
Putin did not offer anything else during the talks with Witkoff in Moscow, the publication's source added.
According to him, the russian dictator does not want to give up the captured territories of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions, as they allowed to provide a strategically important "land corridor" to the occupied Crimea.
The Washington Post also writes that at this point it remains unclear whether putin's proposal contained any guarantees that the russian army would not resume hostilities.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on August 8, Bloomberg wrote after the meeting between Witkoff and putin that American and russian officials are working on an agreement that would allow russia to consolidate its occupation of two regions of Ukraine.
The agency also reported that this agreement provides for the freezing of the front line in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions.
Bloomberg's interlocutors said that the agreement should be ready for putin's meeting with US President Donald Trump. It will take place on August 15 in Alaska.
Today, August 10, the American publication The New York Times wrote that the meeting in Alaska is an ideal opportunity for putin to end his war and sow division within NATO.
