The White House is considering inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Alaska, where President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with russian president vladimir putin next week, according to a senior U.S. official and three people briefed on the internal discussions, NBC News reported.
"It's being discussed," one of the people briefed on the discussions said.
The senior U.S. official and people briefed on the discussions reportedly said the visit was not yet finalized and it was unclear whether Zelenskyy would ultimately travel to Alaska for the meetings, but a senior administration official said it was "absolutely" possible.
"Everyone is very hopeful that it will happen," the official said.
It also became known that a White House official announced the preparation of a bilateral visit for now, but President Trump remains open about a trilateral summit.
"The President remains open to a trilateral summit with both leaders. Right now, the White House is focused on planning a bilateral meeting, which president putin requested," he said.
The publication also reports that as of now, the Ukrainian government has not responded to a request for comment on the situation.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the meeting of US President Donald Trump with vladimir putin will take place on August 15 in Alaska.
Earlier, as Ukrainian News Agency reported, the US administration reported that it considered it likely that Trump would meet with putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the near future, as well as the signing of a peace agreement with their participation in the coming months.
