The US State Department has approved two new defense contracts for Ukraine, which relate to the repair of M777 howitzers, as well as the provision of transportation and logistics services.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), one of the contracts covers the supply of military equipment, repair services and technical support for M777 artillery systems for a total of about USD 104 million. The contract includes technical assistance, personnel training, instructions and other elements of logistical support.
The second contract involves the provision of transportation and logistics services to Ukraine, as well as related equipment. Its cost is estimated at approximately USD 99.5 million.
The agency has already issued the relevant certificates and informed the US Congress of these decisions.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed the first package of American military equipment for Ukraine, agreed under NATO's new initiative "Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List" (PURL), which will be financed by the Netherlands.
Meanwhile, European countries will pay for more than USD 1 billion in US weapons for Ukraine.
