Sweden will closely monitor Ukraine's implementation of its commitments to legal protection of all minorities, including the LGBTI community, which is an important part of Ukraine's rapprochement with the European Union. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced this on his Instagram on Friday, August 1.
Kristersson noted that he had met with Ukrainian LGBTI veterans in Sweden. According to him, these people risk their lives on the front lines and help defend Ukraine. But they are also a living expression of the libertarian values that Ukraine fights for, Kristersson emphasized.
"Today, same-sex couples cannot marry or enter into a registered partnership in Ukraine, and full legal protection of the rights of all minorities, including the LGBTI community, is an important part of Ukraine's rapprochement with the EU for us, and we support this. As a strong supporter of Ukraine, Sweden will closely monitor this implementation," the Swedish Prime Minister emphasized.
