Zelenskyy signs law on restoring independence of NABU and SAPO

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law on restoring the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"I want to thank all parliamentarians for adopting my bill - now a law. As soon as I sign the document, the text will be published immediately. These are guarantees of the normal, independent work of anti-corruption bodies, all law enforcement agencies of our state," he said.

The President emphasized that the law guarantees the absence of any external influences and interference thanks to regular lie detector tests of all law enforcement officers who have access to state secrets or who have relatives in russia.

At the same time, Zelenskyy noted that it is very important that the state listens to public opinion.

"Ukraine is a democracy - there is absolutely no doubt about it. Government officials will also immediately inform Ukraine's partners about this law," he added.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on Thursday, July 31, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in its entirety the bill submitted by Zelenskyy on restoring the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) (No. 13533).

On July 24, Zelenskyy submitted for approval to the Rada Bill No. 13533 on strengthening the powers of the NABU and SAPO after several days of protests against the adoption of Bill No. 12414, which reduces the independence of anti-corruption bodies, which Zelenskyy signed, and concerns from international partners.
