After record earthquake in Kamchatka, Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano begins to erupt

After one of the most powerful earthquakes in modern history, the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano began to erupt in Kamchatka.

According to the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the russian Academy of Sciences", the volcano is currently experiencing intense glow and a powerful lava flow along its back slope.

Footage of the eruption was recorded by the cameras of the Kirysheva seismic station, which continues to monitor in real time.

Recall that the previous day, the region experienced the strongest earthquake since 1952, previously estimated at 8.8 on the Richter scale. This is the sixth most powerful earthquake in the world in the entire history of seismic observations.

According to CNN, Kamchatka and Sakhalin were the most affected, where two aftershocks of magnitude 6.3 and 6.9 were recorded, as well as dozens of weaker ones. Local authorities report waves of 3-4 meters high and flooding of coastal areas, as well as damage to a number of buildings.

A tsunami warning has been issued for several countries in the Pacific region. Evacuations have been announced for the coast of Japan and Hawaii.

Recall that in 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Japan, causing a tsunami and the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident.
