The 22-year-old deputy head of the district branch of the far-right Alternative for Germany party in the city of Wuppertal, Tim Schramm, voluntarily fought on the side of Ukraine. Now he is facing expulsion from politics.
This is reported by the Welt portal, which has received an application for expulsion from the regional leadership of the AfD.
According to the statement, Schramm is accused of "behavior that is extremely harmful to the party", because from March to June of this year he served as a volunteer in the Ukrainian army.
"By speaking in the ranks of the Ukrainian army and publicly commenting on his participation in hostilities, the defendant seriously violated the principles and order of the party, causing it significant damage," the statement says.
So now Schramm can be immediately deprived of his membership rights - such a decision has allegedly already been made by a majority vote of the leadership of the regional branch.

Previously, the politician himself said that he first visited Ukraine in 2022, when he delivered humanitarian aid to the combat zone. After that, at the age of 19, he, according to him, tried to join the International Legion of the Ukrainian Army, but then he was not accepted.
At the end of 2024, Schramm tried to join the Ukrainian army again. As he himself said, "this time through connections." Thanks to them, he allegedly joined the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine and began serving in a unit from Eastern Ukraine.
"We shot, we were shelled, drones were launched and we ourselves were attacked by UAVs. I cannot say more for security reasons," he said.
According to the German politician, during his time at the front, no one from his party knew about this. However, even after that, he didn't want to talk about it, so as not to "look like a poser": "But party comrades - even from the top leadership - supported me. Many simply said: "Dude, this is wow!".
