Member of Parliament from the Holos party Yaroslav Rushchyshyn was killed in a road accident in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region.
This was announced by Tvoe Misto [Your City] and the Ukrainian Catholic University UCuniversity on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to sources, the accident occurred on July 24 at 9:45 pm on the highway near the village of Babukhiv, Ivano-Frankivsk district, Ivano-Frankivsk Region.
Rushchyshyn, while driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, lost control and collided with a tractor traveling in the opposite direction.
The 57-year-old MP died during transportation to a medical facility.
Rushchyshyn was an honorary senator of the Ukrainian Catholic University. The institution expressed its condolences in connection with the death of the MP.
"Irreparable loss - Yaroslav Rushchyshyn, an honorary senator of the Ukrainian Catholic University, one of the founders of the UCU Business School, a great friend and patron of our university, a man of honor and dignity, tragically died in a traffic accident. This is an irreparable loss for the community and all of Ukraine," the message says.
Rushchyshyn had a wife, Yaryna, and a son, Hnat.
In addition to his activities as MP, Rushchyshyn was a public figure, patron, and entrepreneur, founder of the chain of sewing factories JSC Trottola.
He was also a co-founder of the art association Dzyga and participated in the production of the bands Klub Shanuvalnykiv Chaiu [Club of Tea Fans], Mertvyi Piven [Dead Rooster], Dzyga Jazz Quartet, early projects of Okean Elzy and singer Ruslana.
In July 2019, he was elected as MP of Ukraine in the majoritarian district in Lviv, the Holos faction.
In the context of bill No. 12414 on the activities of the NABU and the SAPO, he emphasized: "Independent institutions, including the NABU and the SAPO, are necessary to combat corruption in Ukraine."
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 28, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, Serhii Shvets, died.
On April 21, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Revival of Ukraine parliamentary group, Volodymyr Moroz, died.
