In US, man died after being pulled into MRI machine by chain around his neck

In the US, a 61-year-old man died later after being pulled into a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine by a massive metal chain around his neck. The incident occurred in New York state. This is reported by The Washington Post.

Thus, it is reported that the man entered the MRI room while the scan was taking place there, ignoring the ban. There was a massive metal chain around his neck, which caused the man to be pulled into the MRI machine. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, the next day he died from his injuries.

It is noted that MRI or magnetic resonance imaging is a method used to create three-dimensional images of the inside of a person's body, which can be used to detect and monitor diseases.

To get the images, a person must lie still inside an MRI machine, which uses powerful magnets and radiofrequency current. The magnetic field extends beyond the machine itself and is "strong enough to tip a wheelchair across the room." People undergoing the test are advised to tell their doctor about any implants, and those with certain iron-containing devices, such as pacemakers and cochlear implants, should not undergo the test.

MRI machines have caused deaths and injuries in the past. In 2001, a 6-year-old boy died in Westchester County, New York, after an oxygen tank flew across the room and fractured his skull during a scan. And in 2023, a nurse in California was injured when she was pinned between an MRI machine and a hospital bed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, 33 people in India were killed by lightning strikes in a week.
