President Trump will first provide weapons to those allies who give Ukraine their stocks - media

The administration of US President Donald Trump will redistribute weapons supplies to allies, preparing in the future to give priority to those countries that are ready to give Ukraine weapons, including Patriot systems, from their stocks.

This is reported by the portal of the American publication The Wall Street Journal.

In particular, the administration has moved Germany to the first place in the queue to receive Patriot air defense systems, which will allow the German side to transfer its two existing systems to Ukraine.

As the publication notes, the US promise to quickly replace the German Patriot systems is the first time that the Pentagon has facilitated the supply of weapons to Ukraine since Trump announced earlier this month that he supports additional military supplies.

At the same time, the move also highlighted the difficulty of supplying Patriots and other weapons to Kyiv, as Western defense production lines struggle to keep up with Ukraine's pleas for help defending its cities and troops from russian aggression.

The effort to speed up Patriot deliveries to Ukraine by replenishing Germany's stockpile with systems from the U.S. production line is in line with Trump's pledge to force NATO allies to pay the U.S. for some of the additional weapons for Ukraine.

The initial deal is similar to a move made in 2024 by the administration of former President Joe Biden that moved Ukraine to the top of the line for air defense equipment directly from the U.S.

As more countries agree to supply Patriots from their arsenals to Ukraine, the Trump administration will continue to review plans for future deliveries, prioritizing those allies, the senior U.S. official said.

More deals between the United States and its allies for additional weapons are likely to be signed over the next week, the publication notes.

On Monday, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will hold a virtual meeting with other NATO defense chiefs to discuss assistance to Kyiv.

A separate meeting with the countries that own Patriot systems will be held on Wednesday, chaired by NATO's European Supreme Allied Commander, General Alexus Hrynkevich.

According to a senior U.S. official, the Trump administration is seeking to conclude individual agreements with NATO members to purchase weapons for Ukraine. The Pentagon will oversee the process.

These agreements would go beyond the Patriot supply and include offensive and defensive weapons that NATO countries would provide to Kyiv and then buy back from the United States, the publication adds.

Germany, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Canada and Finland have already pledged to support the initiative, a NATO official said. Several senior European officials said other European countries could join in helping Kyiv once the details of the plan are agreed upon.

At the same time, U.S. and European officials warn that a critical question is how long it will take to deliver additional weapons to Ukraine.

European capitals are waiting for clarification from Washington on the types of ammunition and weapons that will be delivered to Ukraine, the delivery schedule, and whether the U.S. or other countries will impose restrictions on the targets against which Western munitions can be used in russia.
