Two Chinese banks have been included in the new package of sanctions of the European Union against the aggressor country russia. This is the first time that the EU has imposed sanctions against financial institutions of the Middle Kingdom as part of anti-russian sanctions.
The South China Morning Post has reported this with reference to its own sources in diplomatic circles.
The interlocutors of the publication confirmed that the 18th package of EU sanctions included Suifenhe Rural Commercial Bank and Heihe Rural Commercial Bank.
According to the publication, the EU's decision may provoke corresponding measures from China, which has been actively lobbying behind the scenes to have the banks excluded from the sanctions package.
Earlier this month, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during a meeting with the head of European diplomacy Kaia Kallas, warned her "three or four times" that Beijing would respond to the inclusion of its banks on the sanctions list.
As the Ukrainian News agency previously reported, earlier today, July 18, media reported that the European Union countries had agreed on the 18th package of sanctions against russia.
