US Department of State refuses to name countries that will pay for weapons for Ukraine

On Wednesday, July 16, the US Department of State said that it would not name the NATO countries that agreed to finance the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine.

At a briefing, the Department of State spokeswoman Tammy Bruce explained that NATO is dealing with the issue, and the organization itself will decide where to transfer the weapons. She added: "I will not discuss what we could or could not agree on or discuss diplomatically," and emphasized that she has no authority to comment on the position of the NATO leadership.

Earlier it became known that the US and NATO have concluded an agreement under which American weapons worth about USD 10 billion will be transferred to Ukraine at the expense of European countries. Among those who have already confirmed their readiness to make a contribution are Sweden, Denmark and Germany. At the same time, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Italy and France do not plan to participate in this initiative.

According to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Ukraine will receive a significant number of air defense systems, missiles and ammunition.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 14, US President Trump said that Ukraine would receive 17 MIM-104 Patriot air defense systems. Some of them will arrive in the coming days.

In addition, Trump is considering the possibility of transferring JASSM cruise missiles to Ukraine.
