The Israel Defense Forces carried out airstrikes on the General Staff headquarters in Damascus, Syria. The Times of Israel and Bloomberg reported this on Wednesday, July 16.

Several airstrikes targeted the military headquarters building in Damascus, which the Israel Defense Forces confirmed had been hit. Israel has stepped up its attacks on Syria, saying it is "ready for various scenarios."

"Strikes by the Israeli Air Force have now totally destroyed the Ministry of Defense and General Staff Headquarters in the Syrian capital of Damascus," the OSINTdefender channel, which monitors military conflicts around the world, reported on its X-account.

A Syrian state agency reported an explosion in Damascus and drone strikes in Suwayda, a southern region near Israel. The publication says that in recent days there have been clashes between Druze and Bedouin groups in Suwayda. The Syrian government has deployed troops to the area and says it is trying to quell the violence.
