Zelenskyy signs laws on multiple citizenship, establishment of Special Tribunal and suspension of convention on anti-personnel mines

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed laws on multiple citizenship, establishment of a Special Tribunal on the crime of russian aggression against Ukraine and suspension of the Ottawa Convention on anti-personnel mines for Ukraine. Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"I immediately signed the documents transferred from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: the law on multiple citizenship, ratification of the Agreement on the establishment of a Special Tribunal on the crime of russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as suspension of the Ottawa Convention on anti-personnel mines for Ukraine. I am grateful to the MPs of Ukraine for supporting these decisions. Each one strengthens Ukraine," he said.

Zelenskyy noted that thanks to multiple citizenship, Ukraine will be able to create more real legal foundations for the unity of millions of Ukrainians on all continents, as well as those representatives of other peoples who have linked their fate with Ukraine.

Thanks to the tribunal and cooperation with countries of the world and international organizations, Ukraine will be able to ensure the real inevitability of russia's punishment for the war against Ukraine.

And thanks to the use of anti-personnel mines, Ukraine will be able to achieve at least parity in the forces and means necessary to protect against russian aggression.

Zelenskyy reported that he had instructed government officials to urgently work on and adopt all by-laws to implement these laws.

"We can already begin to identify the first partner states with which multiple citizenship will be introduced. I expect the government and the Office team to present a schedule for implementing agreements on launching the tribunal. We are also activating defense solutions that will support our soldiers," he noted.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on June 18, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the introduction of the institution of multiple citizenship (No. 11469), initiated by Zelenskyy. On July 15, the Verkhovna Rada ratified the agreement between Ukraine and the Council of Europe on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of russian aggression against Ukraine, and also suspended the Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mines for Ukraine.
