Zelenskyy to propose Rada appoint Shmyhal as Defense Minister instead of Umerov

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy intends to propose to the Verkhovna Rada to appoint Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal as Minister of Defense instead of Rustem Umerov. Zelenskyy announced this in a traditional evening video address, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Denys Shmyhal's colossal experience will definitely be useful in the position of Minister of Defense of Ukraine - it is in this area that the country's resources are at their maximum, tasks are at their maximum, and there is a lot of responsibility," he said.

Zelenskyy also said that he had proposed to First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko to head the government and update its work.

The President noted that he was counting on sufficient support from the MPs for the new configuration of the government.
