Lithuania creates mobile fire groups to protect infrastructure – Internal Affairs Ministry

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Vilnius city government have agreed to create mobile fire groups in the city that will protect civilian infrastructure from external influence.

It was reported by the LRT publication on Friday, July 11.

Next week, the authorities of the Lithuanian capital will sign a protocol on the procurement of the necessary equipment and supplies for mobile fire groups to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure facilities in the capital. In particular, these groups will protect water supply systems, power grids, communications, transport and other facilities from possible air attacks using drones.

"Against the backdrop of the ongoing Russian military aggression in Ukraine, we must look for new solutions and focus efforts on protecting critical infrastructure facilities," said Internal Affairs Minister Vladyslav Kondratovych.

According to him, Lithuania's initiative is timely and "one that corresponds to the current security situation." The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the war of the aggressor country russia against Ukraine demonstrated a conscious tactic of targeting critical urban infrastructure.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 3, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Lithuania Dovile Šakaliene stated that her country would join Poland and create a protective strip of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines on the border with the aggressor country russia.

Lithuania, Poland and Estonia are also preparing hospitals for a possible war with russia.

In addition, Lithuania and Finland will begin their own production of anti-personnel mines next year.
